LEDs in the News: Municipalities and Parks Turning to LED for their Holiday Light Displays
Christmas is one week away, and we are officially in the holiday spirit. So are zoos, botanical gardens, parks, municipalities, and landmarks throughout the country as their elaborate holiday light displays shine bright and delight visitors. More and more, these attractions are turning to LED technology to provide brighter lights while lowering costs and minimizing their environmental impact.
To celebrate the season, we’re providing a brief round-up of some of the country’s most prominent LED holiday light displays. While we’ll be staying local this holiday season, we know many of you will be travelling away from St. Louis and may be able to visit one of these magical attractions:
PNC Festival of Lights at the Cincinnati Zoo
The PNC Festival of Lights has been voted the “Best Zoo Lights” in the country by USA Today and features 3 million LED lights and an immersive “northern lights” experience.
ZooLights at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo & Conservation Biology Institute
With 500,000 eco-friendly LED lights on display, ZooLights draws visitors from all over the Washington, D.C. area, as well as out-of-towners spending their holidays in our nation’s capital.
Oglebay Winter Festival of Lights
Over a million visitors each year make the trip to Wheeling, West Virginia, located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, to view 90 attractions lit by over one million LED lights.
We hope to see some of St. Louis’ famous lighted attractions, including Wild Lights at the St. Louis Zoo, Winter Wonderland in Tilles Park, and Garden Glow at the Missouri Botanical Garden, join these nationally-recognized light attractions in using LED technology in the near future.
